How To Write A Product Review

How do you choose the products you buy? Do you simply accept as gospel truth all the good things a merchant says about their own product? Or, do you ask your friends’ opinions and look for independent product reviews before opening your wallet?

If you’re a savvy consumer (which of course you are), then you put more stock in your friends’ opinions and independent product reviews.

As affiliate marketers, we become much more successful when we approach our site visitors as friends and take the attitude that they too are savvy consumers.

From that standpoint, an affiliate’s real work is to pre-sell our merchant partners’ products by writing fair and balanced reviews, also known as endorsement letters.

Sure, writing a review for each product takes a little time and effort, but it’s an activity that sets the super affiliates apart from their less-super counterparts in terms of rewards… read ‘income’.

Product reviews can be either stand-alone or comparative. The first type focuses on a single product, while the second is an evaluation of similar items that allows readers to choose which product best suits them.

Before you begin to write a product review, you’ll need to evaluate the product. (Nothing like stating the obvious, eh?)

I prefer to endorse products that I’ve actually used. However, buying a product isn’t always feasible. If that’s the case, affiliate managers will often grant ‘proven’ super-affiliates access to products for their review. That’s especially true of information products and services that are delivered online, such as internet dating services.

But what if you’re not yet a super affiliate, and can’t fathom a basement full of treadmills to review for your exercise site?

Well, do what your customer would do if product reviews didn’t exist on the Internet - go to the store and test those treadmills out!

And how do you review acne medications for your skin care site if you don’t have acne? Surely, you have some friends with (previously) pimply-faced teenagers… ask them to tell you what worked for them.

If you can’t find out that way, search Google for “consumer reviews” + “acne medications”. Read as many as you can to come up with three to five effective products (that have affiliate programs).

Once you’ve collected information about the product, it’s time to start writing that product review.

The structure for a product review is simple, containing an introduction, overview and summary.

The introduction consists of a few sentences outlining the problem and introduces a possible solution for the reader, without going into detail. The overview describes the product’s promise, a description of how the product is used, as well as its effectiveness and value. The summary is almost a repeat of the introduction, and contains a strong recommendation for purchase based on your conclusions.

To simplify the review-writing process, I ask myself the following questions when writing product reviews for my own affiliate sites.

1. Who is my reader and what is their problem?

2. What does the product promise?

3. How well does the product solve the problem? What does it do? How does it work?

4. Does the product offer good value? (Would I buy this product?)

Let’s look at each question in turn.

The first question asks, “Who is my reader and what is their problem?”

If acne is your reader’s problem and your site visitors are adults, you probably want to avoid terminology like ‘Zap those zits!’ and use more age-appropriate language.

Remember too, that ‘zits’ aren’t really the problem. The real problem is how your reader feels about having pimples all over their face and how that affects their life.

If you’ve experienced the problem yourself, say so. Describe your experience, and show understanding and compassion for the reader’s plight. Speaking from real experience earns your readers’ trust which always improves sales rates.

If you have trouble figuring out how your reader might be affected by his problem, then you can research that online too.

For example, I searched Google for “hate acne” and came across Acne.org, where one young woman lamented, “My sh%tty skin is seriously ruining my social life and my relationships with men. I’m avoiding it all just cuz I don’t want to show my face. Its really sad. I also spend a lot of money on make up. I’m not even asking for the most perfect skin (even though it would be nice) but even if I was limited to just a couple zits….and then it would take me under 30 mins to get ready….I would never be home, and I would go back to living the life that I ohh so miss.”

That gives you a pretty clear picture of how she feels, right?

Now address those concerns using emotive terms and you’ll improve your conversion rates.

Here’s an example.

Rather than say, “Product A will cure your acne”, start with a question that appeals to your reader’s emotion, such as “Is acne ruining your social life? Scared to leave the house - or even show your face? There IS a solution to your plight.”

That introduction brings us to the next question which is, ‘What does the product promise?’

Does the product cure the problem? Does it work faster, or with less hassle and expense?

You found answers to that question during your product research. In this section you simply summarize your findings.

Next, answer the third set of questions, “How well does the product solve the problem?”, “what does it do?” and “how does it work?” based on your product research.

Results are the most important information, so it’s not necessary to provide nitty gritty details about how you use the product or what it’s made of or how it is packaged, etc. unless the merchant does not supply that information on their site, and you consider the information of importance to your reader.

Too, we’re all aware that no product is perfect, so don’t go overboard and write a completely glowing, one-sided review. To make the product review balanced and fair, detail what you do and don’t like about the product. If you want to avoid negative statements when outlining your dislikes, try phrasing the sentence like “although I’d prefer a slightly less greasy formula…” or “although the bottle lacks a pump dispenser…” and finish on a positive note.

Lastly, make a value statement. For example, “While Product A and B both eliminate most acne problems in 30 days, Product A wins our ‘best value’ award priced at $20 less per bottle. Or, if you’re writing a single product review, you could say something like, “Acme’s Acne Product would be great value even at twice the price, but at this price it can’t be beat!”

For even better conversions, be sure to include a product graphic on your product review webpage, and a testimonial or two from users that you solicit through your site or use with permission from your merchant partner’s site.

In summary, tell your visitors what you would say to a friend if you were telling them about a product that you found and liked. That approach will make writing reviews easier and your friendly attitude will push your conversion rates through the roof!

Starting Your Online Business

Starting Work On The Internet

I wanted to put together an article that gives a step-by-step
guide for starting your own Internet business and where the
tools of James D. Brausch fit into my online business. It can
be pretty confusing with all the tools and apps out there as
to what will actually be worth the price paid.I really
appreciate James D. Brauschs tools.

Almost all of his tools were created to solve a problem thats not
fixed by another tool on the market. At the very least they
usually cost less but offer a better value. They are the
tools I personally use to promote this site and this site
has really grown quickly much to my enjoyment!

However, I understand that sometimes folks cant afford James D.
Brauschs tools even at the fairly low cost that most of them
are sold for, so I want this article to show you the best of
James D. Brauschs more expensive tools. Here is what I would do
if I was starting out today (or in many cases, it is what I do anyway.

I operate a traditional business as well as my online biz.
I had the brick and mortar going before my online stuff took
off. Thanks to James methods I was even able to take his
lessons offline and keep the brick and mortar because I had
used hisbusiness systems to automate most if not all of the daily
tasks. At any rate, here is a simple breakdown of what you
could use depending on where you are at.

1. Are you making over $1,000,000/year and working less
than 3 hours per day on your Internet business?  If so,
most of James D. Brauschs tools and mentoring wont help
you. (Boo-hoo for you, you’re rich and hardly work.)  Find
someone who is making a zero more than you are
making per year and working less than you are working to
be your mentor. You can always learn, so don’t get jaded. I
thought I was doing well online until I ran into Alan Zunak
and James. It’s dumb to try to learn from those that are
less successful than you are. You can learn some things, but
you can learn more from someone that is further ahead.  Some
will claim that you can learn from their mistakes. You can
but I would rather imitate their successes.Follow the proven
plan of someone who has achieved your present goal.  If you
answered yes to the above question, James D. Brausch is not
your mentor. This also means that he is mine for now..:-)

2. Do you have $5,000 you can invest in getting your
Internet business kicked off with maximum momentum, or
taking your current Internet business to the next level?
If so, then I highly recommend attending one of James D.
Brauschs Freedom Workshops. Its funny that when you have the
money and are not scared to spend it that you end up
learning the most valuable stuff. In the beginning when you
don’t have two pennies to scratch together, you are scared
to buy the good stuff and stay stuck with the rest of the
bottom feeders.Momentum is a huge factor in successfully starting a
profitable Internet business.  In his 3 day workshops, you
are forced to take maximum action and get things done.  If
you dont, he will take over your computer and work on your
Internet business during your time in the hot seat.   You
will leave the Freedom Workshop with a money making Internet
business.  Do not mortgage your house or even incur credit
card debt if you don’t have $5,000 to invest.  Instead, go
to step 3 for an alternative.  Here is the URL for the
Freedom Workshop program:

http://www.JamesBrausch.com/freedom.html

3.Do you have $200 you can invest?  Do you have 3 hours
per day that you can invest in building your Internet
business? This is something that you either make happen or
you don’t. You are either going to make a go of this or you
are going to be one of those people that hope success gets
dropped in their laps. IT DOESN’T HAPPEN THAT WAY. If you want
to make it happen, sign up for James D. Brauschs
Magical Email Address program.  The cost is only $200 per
month right now.  It is the 2nd best thing to attending his
Freedom Workshop. He mentors you by email and you receive
all of his products for no additional cost.  You can’t get
the momentum you can with the live Freedom Workshop, but he
has had customers reach profitability in less than 14 days.
If you don’t have $200 to invest for 2-4 weeks and 3 hours
per day to spend on your Internet business, then skip this
step and go bang your head against a wall. It will be just
as productive as wasting a couple of years looking for
answers when you could have just paid for them. For those who
email James daily and follow his mentoring, there is an 80%
success rate.It is unlawful in the U.S. to make any income
guarantees and James D. Brausch wouldn’t do that even if it
wasnt unlawful. James D. Brausch can only be your mentor.
You have to do the work.  I see this in my business. I can
teach but the work is on the client. If you don’t work, you
wont make a red cent. If you don’t have the
$5,000 for a Freedom Workshop, I recommend this program.
Here is the URL for the Magical Email Address program:

http://www.JamesBrausch.com/magic.html

4. OK, its time to make a move or resign yourself to never
making any money.  If you are not activated for action by
now, then you aren’t serious about building an Internet
business. As a last ditch effort to help you help yourself,
perhaps this is a good time to recommend some of my reading
materials for you to look over in your spare time. I suspect
you really aren’t ready to take action, but you are here so
I will do my part.  There is still some chance that I can
motivate you to get out of the daily grind and do something
to enhance the quality of your life. Check out my
recommended reads for success.

You can find a list of handy tools I use from James over in
the nav bar. Yes they are all affiliate links. Why? Because
there is nothing better than recommending something you use
that is helpful and making a penny while doing it. I am very
grateful for running into James site and for the straight up
advice that is offered.

Time Management For Success

Time management sounds like a horribly boring topic. Images of men and women in white suits with clipboards checking on every move you make spring to mind.

As we may not work in factories and are thinking about our lives as a whole we can forget timing our every move round the factory floor or even our own sitting room. We don’t need that level of detail. .

But we do need to list what we actually do each day even if it is only a very sketchy list. Without such a list it is easy to come up with the favourite excuse of all non-achievers: “I didn’t have time.” Many of us waste huge chunks of time without realizing or admitting it.

I’ve just wasted half an hour trying to win £16000 on a TV program. All you had to do in this particular program was add a second word to the first word ‘over’. For example someone had already won more than a thousand pounds by coming up with the word ‘overgrown’.

It should be quite easy to win but the problem is that you have to get through on the phone to the presenters. Each call costs 75 pence and more often than not you are greeted with a groan which means you have not got through and need to try again. I have just wasted £7.50 on 10 calls without getting through.

Worse than that I’ve wasted about half an hour making those calls. Instead I could have been reading a good book about copywriting or about how to make £16,000 without playing silly TV games!

It is astonishing how easy it is be distracted by TV, the internet, other people or pets and our own restless minds. However, if we list our main activities during the day, we will at least know how we are wasting our time..

If we also list the main activities we plan to do each day and then record what we actually do, we will realize how much we are not doing.

The difference between those who achieve success and those who fail is not how much they know or how skilful they are but how well they manage their time. Time management is the number one life skill. It really means ‘Life management’.

Many experts agree that one way of managing your time well involves making a list of 3 to 6 things you need to do tomorrow in order of importance. Let your subconscious mind work on the list as you sleep. This should make the work much easier to do when you actually start doing it.

When you wake up, get cracking on the first item in your list and don’t stop until you’ve finished it.

If you do stop before you finish, you will have to gather up all the loose ends before you can continue what you have started and this wastes time. You may, once stopped, not restart the task for weeks, months and even years. As you might imagine, I am speaking from my own experience!

If you actually complete your first task you will feel full of energy and ready for the second task. You will have taken another step on the road to achieving your dreams.

Even if you don’t finish all the tasks on your list by the end of the day, you will feel satisfied because you will have spent your time on the most important tasks in your life at that time. Just carry over any remaining tasks until tomorrow.

Some people manage their time by devoting each day of the week to a different activity.

For example, you might work on one of your websites on a Monday. You might work on writing a book on Tuesday. You might spend Wednesday walking and exercising and so on.

I think I might get bored working on just one kind of an activity for a whole day. I prefer following a plan like the following. This can be summarised and easily remembered by the acronym SOG i.e.

Work for an hour on developing a skill that you wish to have e.g. copywriting
Work for an hour on an overwhelming task e.g. clearing the clutter in your bedroom
Work for an hour on achieving one of your key goals e.g. keeping fit

SOG, of course, stands for Skills, Overwhelming tasks and Goals.

Time management, then, needs to be taken seriously. It is not just some boring option which does not affect our lives. It can revolutionise the way we live and make our lives exciting and full of achievement. It is Life management.

Try out the list before you sleep method; the finish it before the next task method, the do one project a day method and, my favourite, the SOG method. Don’t forget to create your own methods.

There is no law that says you can’t use all these methods, including your own methods, at different times of the week.

Try them in turn and see what happens to your life. Good luck!

What is Proper Marketing

Marketing is an action who’s result is an increase in the selling of products and services. These products and services should completely satisfy customers while at the same time making money for the company that is promoting and making this product.   Marketing is not supposed to be an underhanded forced fed take no objection affair. Marketing is and should be a win-win situation in which the customer purchases a product that fills a need they have and in compensation for excellent service or a fantastic product then pays that company money. This profit allows the company to continue to do business in order to continue creating and helping people through the service they provide.

If this is the definition then it becomes obvious that one of the first steps in your marketing campaign should be to find out what a customer needs. A focus on what the customer wants or needs is essential to successful marketing efforts. Once you know what a customer wants, then the next thing is to make sure that you can maintain a volume of sales that will continue to produce a profit for the company.

The marketing campaign is a continuously morphing creature that is always trying to create the optimum balance of complete client satisfaction and increasing company profits. Marketing starts with the filling of a need and the bigger that need, the more potential for profits and increasing the quality of life for your customers.

The process of marketing begins with discovering what product customers want to buy. This bears repeating because if there is no need, then the job of marketing becomes quite challenging. Nobody is looking for what you have to offer. It is always better to put your bait into a pond of hungry fish then into an empty bathtub. This is of course only if you want to catch fish.

After you know what you will be selling and that there is a demand, things become easier. From here it is a matter of letting people know where to get your product, how to deliver it to their hands and setting the price in a range that will entice a purchase.

One of the biggest things to remember about marketing is that it is easier to keep every customer happy, than to constantly go and find new ones. Once you get a customer, make sure they love your product or service. When you get to the point that you have thousands of customers singing the virtues of your company or product, your job marketing and getting the word out gets that much easier!

With happy customers, you have a business. Once you establish the reputation of putting out quality products, your future marketing efforts are more warmly received. If a customer is happy with your xyz product and then you come out with the xyz2 then that product is almost pre-sold. Mr. Smith knows you put out quality stuff. He trusts you and if you are offering to fill a need that he has for a reasonable price, he will buy your new product. The best part is that he will buy it from you instead of your competition because you have built a relationship on quality and trust. Mr. Smith will be a customer for life as long as you treat him well.
