Business Success – Principals To Make More Money
Something I heard lately that rocked my socks was by Jack Canfield in The Success Principles: How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be. Like most great ideas, its an obvious one but that doesn’t change its impact.
1. For business success or anything in life, do not continue to do the things that you are currently doing if you want to change your future situation.
Continuing to do the same things you are doing now, will bring about the same results. If I only want to work 3 days a week but desire more money, then I need to do something differently. Something must change. How about my rates? Actually more accurately, what is every hour of my life to be worth if I wish to achieve a certain business success outcome like 1 million dollars?
Well in order to attain my business success goal of 1 million dollars in 1 year, I need to make $2780 per day ($83,400 per month). How do I do that? Well its not going to be through an hourly rate, I can tell you that. If I tried to earn one million dollars through an hourly service I would need 3 employees charging $155 per hour to work 6 hours per day. That may not be too crazy for some personalized services but for my industry $50-$100 is the norm.
Now there is where the old mind set ends and the new advice kicks in. That was the way I used to think. This is the level of thinking that has brought my currant level of business success. To follow my own advice I must change my actions and thoughts from what got me to where I am, to those that will bring me to where I want to be.
Here is where most people fail. They know they must think differently but then they get shut down with confusion. What should I do differently? What actions should I take? How do I know that I am on the right track?
Answer? You wont know until you try. SECOND ANSWER? While you are trying to figure it out, make the trying pay you off.
WHAT?
For example, as of this writing, do I have a million dollars? NO. Do I know how to get a million dollars? NO, or I would already have it. However, while I am trying to find a tangible plan, I am helping others (there is where the money is) through my discovery process, while having the process pay me. It pays me through google adsense, clickbank, donations (thank you) and a few other trickle feeds.
2. So that would be tip number two. Have your process pay you. Sometimes when everyone is looking for gold, you need to sell picks and shovels.
Although I haven’t made my million dollars this year. The process of figuring it out will make me approximately $24,000. Not bad money just for thinking about how to create more business success.
3. For ultimate business success, except all the responsibility and blame.
Sounds harsh doesn’t it. That’s why you’re not rich. Actually, that’s why I’m not as rich as I would like to be. See, as long as you blame something outside yourself for anything, you remove the ability to change the situation because the outcome is the result of something other than yourself. For example, “If only google had a more accurate algorithm then I would get more traffic and make more money.†By saying something like this, I put my business success in google’s hands because I stated that it was their algorithm that was responsible for my lack of traffic.
If I accept responsibility for the lack of traffic to my blog then now I have the power to change that situation. I can actively seek more efficient ways to increase my web traffic than sitting by and praying for the google gods to bless a helpless peon like myself. This is how business success happens. By thinking differently than 80% of the population.
When everyone is digging for gold, sell picks and shovels.
So here it is. For ultimate business success,you need to;
1. Change the way I think about achieving business success now.
2. Make the process pay me along the way.
3. Except responsibility for my actions and blame no one else.
What does that give us off the top of our head? How about this.
You need to charge more per hour. You have to change your thinking that there is a limit to the amount your services are worth. Lets say $70 per session. You need to stop thinking traditionally and realize that it’s not about what you make per hour only, but how often you replicate the process.
Instead of just you, hire 3 other people to do the same job you do. Hire an extra part time, on commission sales person to go out and get contracts to keep those employees busy. Now you’re thinking like a successful business person.
Make this process pay you by helping others along the way. As you discover information that was hard to attain or find new methods that helped you greatly, tell others. You will help them and helping others is the first step to great business success. Write a book, put it on the net or both. People will buy your information in either the form of a book or through clicking on your ads.
Except responsibility for the outcomes that transpire. See what is working and not working. Own what is not working and change it. It doesn’t have to be right, just different. Enough different ideas will eventually turn out to be the right idea. But the wrong idea will never produce business success if you just hope the outcome will change.
