Pain For A Cause
By make money
Want to hear a funny story? The other day I went down to a sports shop because I knew that were taking donations for MS. The girlfriend wanted to shop and I was in the mood to donate some money, so we went.
Off the cuff I said to the fundraiser girl that if she needed any help in the future, I would be willing to pitch in…..
The store owner was right beside me and said, “They could always use another rider!”. This is where I thought “Rider? What exactly are these folks doing?” Turns out they were biking 150Km on pedal bike to raise money for MS. The store owner piped up at this point and said that he would donate $200 if I did it. The bike tour was in 3 days.
Now I have never biked farther than about 5 km to the gym I work at so I was getting a little worried. I said I could probably do it but I would lose the $210 that I would make in personal training that day. That would be right around when the store owner said “Well, I’ll donate $400 then”. From there on I was comitted.
This was Wednesday, by Saturday morning I had borrowed a bike, bought a tent and a sleeping bag (all the rooms had been booked already) and was ready to go.
The first day was hell.
I couldnt imagine why anyone would do this for fun. Those seats should be a lot bigger. For money maybe, but for fun…no way. The whole way felt like it was into the wind and uphill. It took me 5 hours and 46 minutes to go 90KM. I set up my tent and passed out.
Day Two ROCKED!!
The second day felt like it was all downhill with the wind at my back…I guess that kind of makes sense huh?
I listened to deepak on my mp3 player and some other guest speakers and the time flew by. I really enjoyed the second day and learned alot about living an awakened life from Wayne W Dyer.
All said and done, it was an interesting weekend that raised $635 for MS. Will I do it again next year? Depends on if someone donates enough!
